Abstract

This research was motivated by various international studies which stated that the ability to read comprehension of elementary school students in Indonesia was still low, which was ranked 61st out of 69 countries. This study aims to determine the effect of the SQ3R method on reading comprehension skills of fourth grade students at Kebonagung 2 Elementary School in Porong. The research method used is experimental quantitative research with the type of Pre Experimental Design type One Group Pre-test Post-test Design. Data analysis technique uses normality test, hypothesis test and eta squared calculation. The results showed that there was an effect of the SQ3R method on the reading comprehension skills of fourth grade students at Kebonagung 2 Porong Elementary School. This is evidenced by the results of calculations that show that tcount 7.89> t table value 2.02 then Ha accepted Ho is rejected, and the magnitude of the influence in this study can be seen from the calculation of Eta Squared which shows the results of 0.78. When referring to the interpretation criteria the eta squared calculation of this research can be said to have a big effect.
