Abstract
English is an International language that most influential in the world to study and use. Basic component in learning English is vocabulary because it is important to improve four basic skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing. One of media that can be used to in teaching vocabulary is crossword puzzle game. A crossword puzzle game makes the students can get new words and improve their vocabulary in enjoyable way. This research uses quantitative approach with quasi-experimental design and use experimental class and control class to be compare. The population of this research is all the students in first grade of SMPN 2 Gedangan. The sample is VII-D as experimental class and VII-F as control class, both of the classes consist of 36 students. The instrument of this research is test and use T-test as data analysis. The result of this research shows that total score of experimental class was 1636 and control class was 1728 in the pre-test. In post-test, total score of experimental class was 2348 and control class was 1852. The T-test score was 3.58 and T-table with significance level 5% was 1.994, it means alternative hypothesis (Ha) that state there is effect after taught by using crossword puzzle game in students’ vocabulary at first grade of SMPN 2 Gedangan is accepted.
