Abstract

This study discusses the effect of using children’s Magazine to improve reading comprehension in recount text. This research aims to improve students to comprehend reading material. This way of teaching makes the students exciting and not difficult understand whole meaning on the text. The purposes of this research are to find the existence of effect of Children’s Magazine to improve reading comprehension in recount text to eighth graders of SMP Muhammadiyah 8 NgabanSidoarjo. The method used in this research was pre-experimental one group pre-test and post-test design. The subject of this research was students of 8 B class where they were given pre-test, treatment, and post-test. After collecting the data, the researcher calculated and analyzed the result of pre-test and post-test. T-test was used to find the existence of effect of Children’s magazine. The result of tvalue is 9.27 and ttable with degree of freedom 22 and level of significance 5% is 2,08. So tvalue>ttable. While eta-squared was used to find the effectiveness of Children’s magazine. The calculation showed that the value of eta-squared is 0,80 which means significant or large effect. Based on the criterion of Arikunto (2001), it was proven the treatment by using Children’s Magazine could give an effect to the students’ improve reading comprehension and the effect was significant or large.
