Abstract

One of the Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo’s lecturers, Megawati (2016a & 2016b), apparently makes two journals of education, Pedagogia Journal and Journal of English Educators Society (JEES), which are interesting to read. The first journal title is Kesulitan Mahasiswa dalam Mencapai Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris Secara Efektif. The article’s volume which is made on August 2016 is 5. Because the scope is national, the journal made using Indonesia language. Besides, the second one making on October 2016 is Tertiary Level Exchange students’ Perspective on Self-efficacy: Toward EFL Writing. It’s different from before, this is an international one so the article is using English. The pedagogia journal talks about problems which learners are facing during English class. The result of the study shows the most difficult order to the easiest are speaking, listening, reading, and writing. It happened due to different proficiency level of the students. Meanwhile, JEES brought up content more specific. It observes exchange students’ self-efficacy on writing competence as Thailand students as the subject. It got the same result which is on moderate level. It is indicate that the students are not maximal in following the writing course. The pedagogia journal is using qualitative research method with questionnaire, observation, and recording as the instruments while JEES is using quantitative method with questionnaire, interview, and the result of writing task. Both of them give us information about English learning problems also how to solve it. But pedagogia journal is way better since it gives us a complete explanation of the problems from the 4 skills in English. Besides, JEES journal gives us good information about exchange students’ competence in order to the writing class yet it just explains about one of four skills. So, based on the explanation above, which one do you prefer to read first? The first article or the second one?
