Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out the effectiveness of comic strips toward eighth graders’ writing ability of recount text at SMP Sepuluh Nopember, Sidoarjo. Comic strips is defined as interesting media which can be applied for student, for it consists of picture and story inside. The method of this research was true-experimental research. This research was carried out in two classes, that are experimental and control class. The sample of this research were 40 students of VIIIG as the experimental class and 42 students of VIIID as the control class. The instrument of this research are pretest and posttest, then analyzed by using T-test formula. The result of this research showed that the use of comic strips toward eighth graders’ writing ability of recount text at SMP Sepuluh Nopember, Sidoarjo was effective. It could be seen from the statistical calculation with the significance level of 5%, the value of T-test (to) is higher than T-table (tt) that is (4.48 >1.66). Therefore, Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. In other words, there is effect of comic strips toward eighth graders’ writing ability of recount text at SMP Sepuluh Nopember, Sidoarjo. Furthermore, it also calculated with Eta square, the result is 0.22 (high). Based on the result, it can be concluded that the effect of comic strips toward eighth graders’ writing ability of recount text at SMP Sepuluh Nopember, Sidoarjo is large/ significant.
