Abstract
The aim of this research is to know the effect of using tourism place video as media in teaching writing descriptive text of eight grade of SMP Negeri 1 Candi. The researcher used quantitative research and the method used in this study was quasi-experimental study. This research used two classes; there are experimental class and control class, each class consisted of 38 students. The data taken by giving pre-test and post-test in both classes. According to the statistical calculation result found that for the experiment class; mean pre-test is 50.81 then mean post-test is 82 and mean gain score is 31.31. Meanwhile the statistical calculation for control class; mean pre-test is 58 then mean post-test is 71.89 and mean gain score is 13.89. The result of the calculation by using t-test showed that tvalue was higher than ttable (8.38>1.992) with degree of freedom 74 and level of significance 5%. It means that hypothesis alternative (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Therefore, it concludes that there is better achievement of student taught by tourism place video in writing descriptive text.
