Abstract

The purpose of conducting this study is to find out whether there is significant effect in students’ vocabulary achievement in the first grade at SDN Pepelegi 1 Waru-Sidoarjo before and after being taught using big book. In this case, the researcher used quantitative method. The subject of this research was 1-B grade of SDN Pepelegi 1 Waru-Sidoarjo which consisted of 35 students. The researcher divides the main activity into try-out, pre-test, treatment and post-test. Based on the statistical calculation from mean result of pre-test is 73.38 and the result mean of post-test is 86.88. The students’ score is increasing after given the treatment. The researcher used ttest to calculate the data and to test the hypothesis. The result of the calculation of this research is t-test is higher than t-table. Here, the t-test is 2.840 and the t-table is 1.995 with degree of freedom 68 and level of significance 5%. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. From the result of the data analysis above, the use of big book gives significant effect in students’ vocabulary achievement.
