Abstract
The aim of this study is to find the empirical evidence of the tenth graders’ errors in recount text writing based on the problem that students experienced in writing, especially writing recount text. The method of this study was qualitative method. The subject of the study the researcher chose was half of 10 FK 3 and half of 10 FK 4 (2017/2018) students at SMK Sepuluh Nopember, Sidoarjo. The theory used by the researcher to differentiate the error is Azar’s theory. According to the analysis result, researcher found all types of error or fourteen types of errors based on Azar’s theory in the tenth graders of SMK Sepuluh Nopember’s writings, that are singular-plural error, word form error, word choice error, verb tense error, add a word error, omit a word error, spelling error, punctuation error, capitalization error, article error, meaning not clear error, incomplete sentence error, and run-on sentence error. According to the analysis, the researcher found the highest error made by the students was punctuation error with 20% percentages or 175 errors.
