Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the effect of using video clip as media to improve students’ writing skill in writing narrative text of nine grader of SMP Negeri 1 Candi. Video clip is a form of multimedia which conveys information through two sensors; aural and visual. Video clip literally combines a story and music to emphasize the story itself. The research used Quasi-Experimental in which the sample was two classes divided into two group, experimental (9A) and control group (9C). Both of group consisted of 33 students in nine grader. The researcher used video clip as teaching media in experimental group, while teaching based on the text book in control group. The data were taken by giving an essay of pre-test and post-test to write narrative text in both groups. The result of this study showed that the students in experimental group can improve their writing skill in narrative text through using video clip as media with proven by tvalue was higher than ttable (9,92 > 1,99) where the significant level α = 0,05. Furthermore, eta square computation showed 0,75 which mean video clip give a large effect in improving students’ writing skill. It can be concluded that video clip is effective and applicable approach for nine grader to improve students’ writing skill in writing narrative text in SMP Negeri 1 Candi.
