Abstract

This paper describes the design, optimization and optical evaluation of a new type (diffractive/refractive) hybrid phakic anterior chamber lens for high myopia correction. Harnessing the anatomically correct Liou-Brennan schematic eye model in ZEMAX software, computational simulations were performed. Myopia was induced by increasing the vitreous chamber depth of 2.22 mm (axial length: 26.17 mm) to produce a –6.00 Diopter (D). A biconcave hybrid P-IOL created from Benz 25 hydrophilic acrylic copolymer (refractive index: 1.462; Abbe number, not available [45]; central thickness, 0.30 mm) was virtually placed at an effective lens position of +2.43 mm. The P-IOL, with an optimized power of -6.04 D decreased the total ocular power from 60.35 D to 54.50D … allowing for complete reflux at precisely focused images planes onto a retina target plane (anterior). Optical performance was measured under photopic conditions (2.5 mm pupil) at 0°, 10° and 20° fields across a polychromatic range (0·470-‘0655 μm). It was found that the optical quality after implanted achieved a significant restoration, and RMS spot radius at 2.524 μm、2.951 μm、9.868 μm respectively (post-implantation results). The Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) analysis demonstrated a marked improvement of contrast, particularly at high spatial frequencies (50–150 cycles/mm), reflecting how the diffractive profile could negate ocular dispersion. Sharp visual outputs with reduced wavefront aberrations as well as simulated retinal images validated the effective stability of this hybrid design, demonstrating that an excellent clinical optical option for high myopia correction may be achievable through a novel and clinically advantageous lens system compared to traditional purely refractive approaches.
