Abstract
The importance of tolerance as a glue for harmonious coexistence in the lives and social interactions of elementary school students. However, some students' attitudes still show a low level of respect and listening to the opinions of friends who are discussing and playing alone during the learning process. This phenomenon requires the instillation of tolerance character values to be a necessity in every school. The purpose of describing the role of teachers in instilling tolerance character values in students through active learning with guided inquiry methods in civics learning. The approach used is qualitative research with a phenomenological type. The object of this research was carried out at Gelam 1 Candi Elementary School, Sidoarjo Regency with one subject, a grade IV teacher. The data collection methods used were interviews, observations, and documentation. Furthermore, it was analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive analysis model, namely data collection, condensation, data presentation, and conclusions. The results of the study showed that the role of teachers in instilling tolerance character values in students through active learning with guided inquiry methods in civics learning in elementary schools acts as a learning resource, motivator, class manager, and evaluator.
