Abstract

I have read two journals, the title of the first journal is “Kesulitan dalam Mencapai Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris Secara Efektif”. And the second journal is “Tertiary Level Exchange Students’ Perspective on Self-Efficacy: Toward EFL Writing”. The first journal using Indonesian language. While, the second journal using English language. The first journal published in August 2016, the pages are 10 and the volume is 5, no. 2. While, the second journal published in 9th November 2016, the pages are 12 and the volume is 1, no 2. The content of the first journal is about English learning problems. In this study show the difficulty of learning English in four skills such as Speaking, Listening, Writing and Reading with the most difficult sequence to the easiest. Factors that cause difficulties in learning English are closely related to the level of mastery of their respective languages. However, active students choose to write. But, for passive students choose to speaking as a difficult thing to practice. While, the content of second journal is about the students’ self-efficacy on their writing competence. This study show the picture of the Thailand students’ self-efficacy in writing class. It got the same result which is on moderate level. It indicated the students are not maximal in following writing course. They need more guidance regarding the very different education background and learning situation. The first journal applied qualitative method and use observation, recording and questionnaire as the instrument. The data were analyzed through three stages: data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing/verification. While, the second journal applied research methodology closed-ended questionnaire and interview. The questionnaire were adapted from “Writing Skills Questionnaire”. The first journal is more interesting for me because this is general discussion, there are problem and resolve. I am in the scope of English majors. Of course, later I will see things like journal 1 say, that there are many difficulties faced by students when learning English. Therefore, this journal is very important for me to improve the concept of effective English learning. On the other hand, the second journal is less interesting because this is not general discussion. I am not exchange students from Thailand and I am pure student at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo but it doesn’t mean I don’t care about exchange students. At least, with the journal 2, I understand about students exchange from Thailand which in Universitas Muhammadiyah and their self-efficacy in writing class.
