Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out whether there is significant effect in students’ reading skill in ninth grade of SMP Negeri 6 Sidoarjo before and after being taught by using suggestopedia method. The researcher used quantitative research two methods on students’ reading comprehension in narrative text. the researcher used suggestopedia in IX-B as experimental class and teacher’s method in IX-A as controlled class. The data taken by giving pre-test and post-test in both classes. The statistical calculation result found that for the experiment class; mean pre-test is 82,32, Mean post-test is 90,59. Meanwhile the statistical calculation for control class; mean pre-test is 79,62, mean post-test is 83,89. The result of the calculation by using t-test showed that tvalue was higher than ttable (2,53>1,993) with degree of freedom72 and level of significance 5%. It means that hypothesis alternative (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Therefore, it concludes that there is significant effect of using suggestopedia method on reading comprehension in ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri 6 Sidoarjo.
