Abstract

There are many factors causes low birth weight including mother with a premature history and had a low birth weight experience, less nutrition during pregnancy, mother’s age, pragnancy and birth spacing too close, maternal diseases, fragnancy factors, fetus factor, and habit factor. While the impact that caused by less than 2.500 gram weight are at risk of having a disability including, physical and mental disorder along with a serious impact that will hampering mental development with the result that influence children intelligence. Low birth weight as one of factors for infant mortality during perinatal period. Based on survey conducted bin RSIA Kirana number of birth with low birth weight as big as 42%. This study will describe the correlation between birth spacing and LBW cases by using analytical design with Chi – Squsre Test technique. The population research of all babies who were born in January to december 2016. The result of the research obtained birth spacing within > 2 years that is 96 (45,5%) with the result P = 0,0001 < α = 0,05 means there is corrolation between birth spacing and LBW cases. Because if the previous birth spacing less than two years, the uterus and maternal health has not recover well, it possibily will bepoor fetal growth which can cause the low birth weight (LBW)
