Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out whether there was significant effect in students’ grammar mastery in the eighth grade at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Tulangan before and after taught used snake and ladder. In this study, the researcher used quantitative method. The population of this study was eight grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Tulangan. The researcher took two classes as the sample, VIII-C as the control class and VIII-D as the experimental class. The instrument of this study is test which consist of pre-test and post-test. The researcher divided the main activity into pre-test, give treatment for experimental class, and post-test. The result of this study present that using snake and ladder is effective media in improving students’ grammar mastery. It was supported by the result of mean both of classes. The researcher using SPSS 22.0 to calculated the data. Based on the statistical analysis present the mean of pre-test experimental class from pre-test 59. 65 lower than post-test result 86. 20. The result showed that students’ score increased about 24. 48 after given the treatment using snake and ladder. The researcher used T-test to analyze the data. The result showed that t-test for Equality of Means is 0.000 < 0.05. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and there was significance in students’ grammar mastery in simple past tense taught and learned with snake and ladder.
