Abstract
This research aims to describe the implementation of Total Physical Response in teaching English to mentally retarded students at SLB Aisyiyah Porong. This research used qualitative method which the result is description. The subject of this research was mentally retarded students of SLB Aisyiyah Porong, especially for tenth graders which consisted of seven students, two female students and five male students. To get the data, this research used two instruments. Those were observation and interview. The observation was done in four meetings. It used to observe the implementation of total physical response for the whole teaching and learning process. then, the interview aimed to get the more information about the teaching and learning process, also the obstacles that faced by the teacher while using total physical response to mentally retarded students. The result of this research showed that the teaching and learning process by using Total Physical Response to mentally retarded students was well implemented. Even though there were some principles that were not applied because of limited ability of mentally retarded students which could not be forced.
