Abstract

Learning English especially in descriptive text has confusing rules to learn, many of them have problem in writing skill, it is using word webbing technique. The purpose of this research is to find an alternative way and suitable method to help the students learn about descriptive text, especially in using word webbing in writing. The method that used in this research is quasi experimental research which are compare two classes in SMP Negeri 2 Gedangan. The first class as experimental class which taught descriptive text using word webbing while second class as control class thought descriptive text without using word webbing or thought using conventional teaching method. The researcher gives pre-test first than gives treatment and the last the writer gives post-test. The data collected and counted using t-test formula. According to the statistical calculation result found that for the experiment class; mean pre-test is 56.80, Mean post-test is 76.38 and mean gain score is 19.58. Meanwhile the statistical calculation for control class; mean pre-test is 60.71, mean post-test is 74.14 and mean gain score is 13.42. The result of t-test was 9.29 and t-table at significance 5% was 1.994. Thus, t-test (t_0 = 9.29) was higher than t table (t_t 5% = 1.994). It can be concluded that word webbing has an effect for students’ to increase the students’ ability in descriptive text. Eta-squared was 0.55 which means there is significant effect. From the result of eta-squared, it can be concluded that there is significant effect of students’ to increase the students’ ability in descriptive text
