Abstract

Based on the result of observation at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Taman and the results of interview with teacher class in learning, teacher was still seen to dominate the teaching and learning process. Students only received information and teacher who can cause lack of enthusiasm and attention of students in following the learning so it made the atmosphere of learning that took place looks still passive. It caused the value of student’s speaking that still have not reached the maximum due to lack of student confidence in responding to explanation from teacher. Learning by using comic strip media expected in order to make the result of student’s speaking value can be increased in their speaking skill in material narrative text. The purpose of this research was to know whether comic strip media have effect in speaking skill of the students of 10th graders at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Taman. This research was a quantitative research with Pre Experimental Design research method with One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design type. The data collection technique used was a test data of student’s speaking. Based on the data analysis result obtained that the mean pretest value of students was 45 while the mean posttest score of students was 61. So, it can be stated that the value of pretest < posttest or 45 < 61 which means Ha accepted and H0 rejected. Thus, it can be concluded that there was the effect of learning by using comic strip as a media in speaking skill of English class of tenth graders at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Taman.
