Abstract

Objective: Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a strategic role in supporting local economic development. However, limited understanding of business legality remains a significant challenge for many MSME owners, including those in Mayang Village, Sukoharjo Regency. This condition restricts legal protection and limits access to business development opportunities. This community engagement programme aimed to enhance the legal understanding of MSME owners regarding the importance of business legality as a foundation for conducting lawful and sustainable business activities Method: The programme employed a legal education approach consisting of presentations, interactive discussions, and question-and-answer sessions covering legal aspects, business licensing, and procedures for obtaining business legality. The participants were MSME owners from Mayang Village.  Results:  The results demonstrated a significant improvement in participants’ understanding of the importance of business legality, the benefits of obtaining business licences, and the procedures required to secure legal status in accordance with applicable regulations. The interactive discussions also revealed a high level of participant engagement in addressing legal issues encountered in business operations. The programme concludes that legal education on business legality is an effective approach to strengthening the legal awareness and understanding of MSME owners, thereby promoting legally compliant, administratively sound, competitive, and sustainable business practices.
