Abstract
Objective: This study fills this void by suggesting a Strategic Capability and Adoption Framework which will allow U.S. SMEs to systematically measure organizational readiness, to pursue a structured path for the adoption of AI-enabled business analytics, and to assess business performance outcomes. Method: The research method used is deductive research that is underpinned by the literature review, development of a framework, and empirical testing by a secondary dataset on the digital adoption of SME and sales performance. To demonstrate the application of the proposed framework, descriptive analysis, correlation analysis, and regression analysis are used to study the correlation between technological adaptation and business performance. Results: The proposed framework consists of three interdependent areas: Organizational Readiness, Structured AI Adoption Roadmap, and Competitive Performance Impact. Organizational readiness involves studying key prerequisites for successful AI adoption, such as leadership commitment, digital capability, analytics literacy, and strategic alignment. The adoption roadmap covers a progressive adoption process from awareness and assessment through to pilot implementation and organizational scaling and continuous optimization. Business measures are used for assessing competitive performance, such as business growth, business efficiency, productivity, customer responsiveness, and business resilience. The outcome should be a management decision framework that helps the SME owner and/or manager assess the readiness of their organization to consider AI and mitigates the risks of implementation while enhancing strategic decision-making. Novelty: This study enriches the literature by bringing together the organizational capability, structured adoption of AI, and measurable business performance within a single framework to facilitate sustainable AI-driven transformation among U.S. SMEs.
