Abstract

Pterygium is a prevalent ocular condition characterized by the growth of fibrovascular tissue from the conjunctiva onto the cornea. While benign, it can cause significant visual impairment and cosmetic concerns. This article provides an in-depth review of pterygium, focusing on its etiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic strategies, and management options. Particular attention is given to the environmental and genetic factors contributing to its development, alongside advancements in surgical techniques aimed at reducing recurrence rates.
