Abstract

The article "The Role of Code-Switching in Multilingual Communities" explores the phenomenon of code-switching, where speakers alternate between two or more languages or language varieties within a conversation. It examines the social, cultural, and cognitive factors that influence code-switching practices among multilingual speakers. The study highlights how code-switching serves various functions, such as identity expression, group solidarity, and contextual adaptation. Additionally, it discusses the implications of code-switching for language maintenance and shift in multilingual communities, emphasizing its role as a communicative strategy that reflects the complex linguistic landscape of these communities.
