Abstract
Pestalotia sp. causes needle blight on Pinus merkusii seedling produces conidia each of which consisting of a row of five cells. The conidia have a diameter of 26.7-33.5 µm ini the middle part, 84.6-96.8 µm long and taaper at both ends. The three middle cells are amber and two of which, located closer to the terminal cell where 92.3-107.1 µm long 2-3 hyline setulae are formed, are darker compared with the one located closer to the basal cell which is attached to the hyaline pedicel of 18.1-22.7 µm long. The basal as well as the terminal cells are hyaline. The disease symptom starts to develop when the seedlings are 2.5 months old and the seveerity of the disease is commonly observed when the 6-7 months old. The disease symptom commonly first appears at the terminal and sometimes at the middle or at the basal portion of the needly. There is no indication that the mycorriza developing on the roots reduces the severity of the disease.
